Well now, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout the national anthem at the NASCAR races today, and seems like it’s gonna be another one o’ them special moments. Every time NASCAR rolls around, they got someone singin’ that ol’ anthem, and it don’t matter where ya are or who ya are, it always makes ya stand a little straighter and put yer hand on yer heart.
Now, as far as I can tell, the singer for today’s race is none other than Hannah Dasher. Yep, a country singer—good ol’ country music, just like we like it. She’s been makin’ waves in the music world, and now she’s bringin’ her voice to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the NASCAR crowd today. Some folks reckon she’s a real good fit, ’cause she’s got a voice that’ll make ya stand up and pay attention. Real fiery, that one.
It ain’t the first time NASCAR’s had some country stars belting out that anthem either. Not too long ago, Craig Morgan, another country singer, did the honors at the YellaWood 500 race. And let me tell ya, he’s no stranger to service—served 17 years in the U.S. Army, so when he sings that anthem, you know it means somethin’ to him. He didn’t do it alone neither; he had the 313th U.S. Army Band right there with him, puttin’ on a real show.
And ya can’t forget the time when Sierra Ferrell took the stage at the Nashville Superspeedway. That was back in June at the Ally 400 race. She’s a singer from the heart of country music, and when she hit those high notes in “The Star-Spangled Banner,” folks couldn’t help but cheer. She sure knows how to make people feel the pride of our country, just like the anthem’s meant to do.
It’s funny how the anthem changes a bit at different races. Sometimes you got solo performances, other times, it’s a choir. I remember when they had the Uniting Voices Chicago choir at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race for the Grant Park 220 Cup Series race. I ain’t ever heard a choir that big singin’ the anthem. They sure did put on a show, and I reckon a lotta folks in the crowd got real emotional listenin’ to them.
But it ain’t all just big-name singers and choirs. Sometimes, it’s the kids of the drivers and team members who get up and sing. Now, I gotta tell ya, when them young’uns stand up at the Bristol Motor Speedway, ya just can’t help but get a lump in yer throat. Been happenin’ since 1999, and it’s a tradition folks look forward to every year. Ain’t nothin’ like hearin’ a child singin’ that anthem. It brings it all home, makes it feel real special.
At the end o’ the day, whoever it is that sings that anthem, it always feels like part of the race. NASCAR and that anthem just go hand-in-hand. It’s a reminder of what we’re all here for—our country, our pride, and a bit o’ fun with them cars goin’ around the track. So, who’s singin’ today? Well, it’s Hannah Dasher, and I reckon she’s gonna do a fine job of remindin’ us all what it means to be an American, even if we’re just sittin’ at home watchin’ it on the TV.
