Well, lemme tell ya ’bout the 2017-18 Minnesota Timberwolves roster. They was a team that put up a good fight that year, though it weren’t easy. You had some real big names on that squad. The Timberwolves finished the season with a record of 47 wins and 35 losses, which ain’t too shabby, but they was just shy of makin’ it further. They had some solid players, and folks was hopin’ for more outta ’em that year. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I sure do remember some of them players that made their mark.
Karl-Anthony Towns – Now, Towns, he was the one folks was really excited about. Big guy, tall and strong, picked number one overall in the 2015 draft. He was the centerpiece of the Timberwolves that season. He had a knack for grabbin’ rebounds and puttin’ the ball in the basket, both inside and outside. Real good player, I tell ya. His numbers were pretty decent too, averaging 21.3 points per game that season. Real solid fella.

Jimmy Butler – Ahh, Jimmy Butler, he was another key piece of the puzzle. Butler played for the Timberwolves during the 2017-18 season, and boy, he sure made a difference. Not only could he score, but he was a defender too. He averaged 22.2 points per game that year and was the heart and soul of that team. People sure did miss him after he left for another team. They say good things don’t last, but he sure did give the Timberwolves a shot at the playoffs.
Andrew Wiggins – Wiggins was another young buck on that team. He came in with big expectations, and though he had his ups and downs, he contributed a lot. In the 2017-18 season, he put up an average of 17.4 points per game. He wasn’t quite the star people thought he might be, but he still did a lot of good work on the floor, especially on offense. Some say he could’ve been better, but still, he was a key part of the roster.
Ricky Rubio – Now, Ricky Rubio, he had a way with the ball. Not the highest scorer on the team, but he sure knew how to pass it. He was a big part of the Timberwolves’ playmaking in the 2017-18 season. His vision and passing helped set up teammates like Towns and Butler for easy buckets. He averaged 8.6 assists per game, so he was doin’ his part, even if he wasn’t the one gettin’ the glory.
Gorgui Dieng – Gorgui Dieng was another fella who made his presence known. A big guy, solid defender, and a good rebounder. His minutes weren’t always the most, but when he was on the floor, he sure gave his all. He didn’t put up crazy numbers, but he was dependable and helped the team in all the dirty work, like grabbin’ boards and protectin’ the rim. He averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds that year. Not too shabby for a guy who came off the bench.
Taj Gibson – Now, Taj Gibson, he was a real experienced player. A veteran who brought leadership and grit to the Timberwolves. He was known for his defense and his ability to score when needed. He averaged 10.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Not bad for a guy that wasn’t the flashiest player on the court. He did a lotta the little things, and folks sure appreciated that.

Jeff Teague – Then we had Jeff Teague, a point guard who helped run the show. He wasn’t the star, but he was solid in his role. He averaged 14.2 points and 7.0 assists per game that season. He did what was asked of him, kept the ball movin’, and set up his teammates for success.
Other Players on the Roster – Of course, there were others like Jamal Crawford, who could come off the bench and score in bunches. He was one of those veteran guys who could still light it up when he needed to. You also had players like Nemanja Bjelica, who was known for stretchin’ the floor and hittin’ some big shots from outside. Then there were fellas like Tyus Jones, who didn’t play a ton but still had his moments. Every player contributed in their own way, though not all of ’em was starters.
But, let me tell ya, that season ended with a lot of folks talkin’. The Timberwolves got into the playoffs, but they didn’t make it too far. They got knocked out in the first round, but still, it was somethin’ after not makin’ the playoffs for 14 years before that. The 2017-18 season was a step forward, even if it didn’t end the way folks was hopin’.
So, that’s the rundown of the Timberwolves roster from back in 2017-18. A lotta good players, a lotta potential, and even though they didn’t win the big prize, they sure did make some noise. If you look at the squad, you can see why folks had high hopes. A mix of youth and experience, but sometimes, just ain’t enough to get over the hump. But hey, that’s basketball, ain’t it?
