Alright, listen up, y’all, gonna tell ya how to be one of them NASCAR truck drivers, you know, the fellas who zoom around in them big ol’ trucks. It ain’t easy, mind you, not like drivin’ your pickup to the market.
First off, you gotta love racin’. Like, really love it. More than your grandma’s apple pie, more than sleepin’ in on a Sunday. ‘Cause you gonna be spendin’ a whole lotta time drivin’ and workin’ and sweatin’ if you wanna make it.

Now, you can’t just jump into a NASCAR truck, no sir. You gotta start small, real small. Like them go-karts they got at the county fair? Yeah, somethin’ like that. Get yourself a feel for speed, for turnin’, for not crashin’ into the hay bales. And after go-karts, find some dirt tracks. You know, local speedways where they race old beaters on Saturday night.
Then, gotta learn how to fix your car. You can’t always ask other people for help, those people don’t always have time for you. Learn to fix it yourself, and this can save you money, too. You don’t want to spend money on some easy fix.
Then, you gotta climb your way up. There’s this thing called ladder series. Think of it like a stepladder, you gotta go up one rung at a time. You start at the bottom, racin’ against other young whippersnappers, and if you’re good, real good, you move up to the next level.
- Local Tracks
- Regional Series
- National Series
And keep on goin’ till you get to the top. It’s a long climb, mind you, lot of racin’, lot of travelin’, lot of eatin’ gas station food. You gotta win races, show them fellas with the money that you got what it takes.
Speaking of money, that’s a big deal. These trucks ain’t cheap, and racin’ costs a fortune. You need sponsors, folks who’ll give you money to put their name on your truck. And to get those sponsors, you gotta be good, real good, or at least know somebody who knows somebody, you get the picture?

Now, age is a thing too. You can’t start super young like those video games show. They changed it up, not so long ago, you gotta be at least 16 to race on the smaller tracks and the trucks, too. And after that, keep practicing. Keep racing and improving, and then maybe, just maybe, you’ll get a shot at the big leagues.
But even if you get to the trucks, you gotta keep learnin’. These fellas in NASCAR, they’re always lookin’ for an edge, for a way to go faster. So you gotta be a sponge, soakin’ up all the knowledge you can. Listen to your crew chief, talk to the other drivers, watch videos of old races, anything to make you better.
And then there’s the physical part. Drivin’ these trucks ain’t like sittin’ on your couch watchin’ TV. It’s hot in there, it’s loud, and it’s bumpy. You’re pullin’ G-forces, your heart’s racin’, and you’re sweatin’ buckets. So you gotta be in shape, strong enough to handle the wheel, tough enough to take the heat.
So there you have it, that’s how you become one of them NASCAR truck fellas. It ain’t easy, like I said. It takes hard work, dedication, and a whole lotta luck. But if you got the need for speed, the determination to win, and the stomach for gas station food, then go for it. Maybe one day I’ll see you on TV, zippin’ around that track in your big ol’ truck.
One last thing, be nice to folks. People like nice fellas, and this can help you get sponsors. Also sponsors mean you get more money for your car and your stuff for working on the car.
