Alright, listen up, y’all. Let me tell ya ’bout this here “beach tennis.” I ain’t no fancy sports expert, but I’ll tell ya what I know, the way I see it.
So, what is this beach tennis, huh? Well, it’s like this. You take some tennis, yeah, the kind where you whack a ball with a racket? And then you take some beach volleyball, where you’re jumpin’ around in the sand. And then you mix ’em together, like makin’ a cake, but instead of sugar, you got sweat, and instead of flour, you got sand. That’s beach tennis!

Someone told me it’s played in a whole bunch of countries, like, more than 50! Can you believe that? Folks in Italy, Brazil, and Spain, they really love it. And it ain’t just for young whippersnappers neither. Old folks and young’uns, everyone’s playin’ it. They say it’s good for your heart, gets you movin’ around, but it ain’t too hard on your knees, seein’ as how you’re playin’ on sand. Sand’s soft, you know.
Now, how you play this thing? It ain’t rocket science, let me tell ya. You got a net, like in tennis, but it’s higher up, I heard. And you got these paddle thingies, not exactly tennis rackets, but kinda like ‘em. And a squishy ball, not too hard, not too soft. You and your partner, or maybe just you against one other person, gotta hit that ball over the net.
Here’s the catch, though. The ball can’t touch the ground, no sir! You gotta hit it outta the air, bing, bang, boom! And if it lands on the other side, in the sand, bam! You get a point. Simple as pie, ain’t it? No fancy scorin’ rules, no bounces, none of that stuff. Just hit the ball, keep it in the air, and make it land in their sandbox.
- No ball bouncing!
- Hit it over the net.
- Land it in the other side’s sand.
They say it’s kinda like badminton too, with all that hittin’ the ball before it drops. I ain’t never played badminton, but I seen it on TV once. Looks like hard work to me. This beach tennis, though, it seems fun. You’re out there in the sun, gettin’ a tan, laughin’ with your friends, and smackin’ a ball around. What’s not to like?
This beach tennis thing is growin’ fast, they tell me. Folks wanna make it the biggest beach sport in the whole world! I guess that’s a pretty big deal. Brazil, they’re crazy for it. They got over a million people playin’! Can you imagine? A million folks runnin’ around on the sand, hittin’ that little ball. That’s a lot of sand flyin’ around, I tell ya.

And get this, the scorin’, it’s easy peasy. Just like tennis, sorta. You got your 15, 30, 40, game. But if it gets to 40-40, what they call “deuce,” the next point wins. No need for all that “advantage in, advantage out” stuff. Just win the point, and you win the game. That’s how I like it, straightforward and simple. None of that complicated mess.
So, if you ever get a chance, go try it out. Find yourself a beach, or a sand court, grab a paddle, and a friend, and start smackin’ that ball. It’s good exercise, it’s fun, and it’ll keep you outta trouble, which is more than I can say for some of them young folks these days. Just remember what I told ya, no bouncing, hit it over the net, and land it in the sand. You do that, and you’ll be playin’ beach tennis like a pro in no time. Or at least, you’ll have a good time tryin’.
And don’t forget, wear sunscreen! Nobody wants to look like a burnt potato, ya hear? Gotta take care of yourself out there in the sun. And drink plenty of water, keep yourself hydrated. That’s important, no matter what you’re doin’. Now go on, git outta here, and go play some beach tennis!
