Hey, listen up! Today, I gonna tell ya somethin’ about that NBA hoop. That thing they use to throw the big orange ball in. How high is that thing anyway? Lots of folks be askin’.
So, this fella named James, way back when, he made up this game, basketball. I reckon it was a long time ago. 1891, they say! He said, the hoop, gotta be 10 feet up. Ten feet! Can you believe it? That’s higher than my old chicken coop!
Now, you see them NBA players, they tall. Mighty tall! Some of ’em, shoot, they over 6 feet, easy! Maybe even 6 foot 7! But the hoop, it don’t care. It just sits up there, 10 feet high, same as always. It don’t matter if you playin’ in the NBA, or in college, or even overseas, that hoop is always the same, 10 feet, no more, no less.
- NBA hoop is 10 feet.
- College game hoop, also 10 feet.
- Everywhere else, 10 feet, too!
They say it’s important. Keeps things fair, they say. Everybody playin’ by the same rules. That NBA hoop height ain’t changin’, no sir. Been that way since the beginnin’, and I reckon it’ll stay that way, long as they playin’ that game.
Now, some folks, they like to measure in meters. I don’t know much ’bout that, but they say 10 feet is the same as 3.05 meters. Sounds right complicated to me. I just stick with feet. Easier to remember.
I remember one time, my grandson, he tried to put up a hoop in the backyard. He’s a good boy, but he ain’t no carpenter. That hoop, it was crooked! Lower on one side than the other. We had a good laugh ’bout that. But he fixed it up, made it right. 10 feet high, just like it’s supposed to be.
So, why 10 feet? Well, I ain’t no expert, but I guess it just works. High enough to be a challenge, but not so high that nobody can make a basket. They say it’s a good height, keeps the game excitin’. Makes it so them tall fellas gotta work for it, jumpin’ and shootin’.

You see them kids playin’ nowadays, they all wanna be like them NBA stars. They practice and practice, tryin’ to get that ball in the hoop. And that hoop, it’s always 10 feet high. Same as it was for their daddies, and their daddies before them.
It is important that the NBA hoop height is the same everywhere, you know, they say it makes all things fair. Everyone plays the same game, with the same rules, and I think it is a good thing.
- Keeps things fair for everyone.
- Makes the game excitin’.
- 10 feet is the magic number.
Now, I seen some folks sayin’ maybe they should change the height. Make it higher, maybe. ‘Cause them players keep gettin’ taller. But I don’t know ’bout that. Seems to me, 10 feet is just right. It’s part of the game, you know? Like the ball, and the court, and the rules. You can not be changin’ the NBA hoop height, it is part of history!
So, next time you watchin’ them NBA players, flyin’ through the air, slammin’ that ball in the hoop, just remember, that hoop is 10 feet high. Always has been, always will be. And that’s just the way it is. It ain’t gonna change, no matter how tall them players get. 10 feet, that’s the rule, and that’s that.
Well, I reckon I’ve said my piece. Just wanted to clear up that whole NBA hoop height business. It ain’t rocket science, you know. Just 10 feet. Plain and simple. Don’t you forget it! Everyone knows it, how tall is an nba hoop? 10 feet! It has been like that for a long time. And it is easy to remember. They should keep it that way.
