Oh, honey, you wanna know who got that there pole position for the NASCAR race tomorrow? Well, let me tell you, it ain’t easy keepin’ up with all them cars goin’ round and round. But I heard some folks talkin’ down at the general store, and they was sayin’ somethin’ about it.
Now, I ain’t no expert on these NASCAR things. I seen ’em on the TV a few times. All them cars, they just go so fast! Makes my head spin just watchin’ ’em. But I do like seein’ a good race, I tell ya what. And that pole thing, that’s the feller who starts in the front, right? That’s gotta be a good thing, startin’ out ahead of everyone else.

So, they was sayin’ this fella, what’s his name… Martin somethin’? Martin Truex Jr., yeah, that’s it! They say he’s gonna be on the pole for that big NASCAR Cup Series Championship race. Sounds important, don’t it? Championship and all. Must be a big deal. He must be a good driver. And I think it’s gonna be in Phoenix. Is that a state? I don’t know. I ain’t been much outside our county. But I heard it on the radio.
- Martin Truex Jr. – He’s got the pole!
- Championship Race – Sounds fancy!
- Phoenix Raceway – That’s where they’re racin’!
And then there’s another fella, Joey somethin’. Joey Logano, I reckon that’s him. He’s startin’ right behind that Martin fella. Second place ain’t too shabby, I suppose. Still gotta be a good driver to be up there with all them other fast cars. I reckon he will be in his car number 22. It’s all about them numbers.
But you know, it ain’t always the same fella winnin’ that pole. Sometimes it’s a different one. They mentioned some other names too, like that Tyler Reddick. He got the pole in some other race, somewhere called Homestead-Miami. Sounds like a hot place. I bet they got alligators down there.
And this Christopher Bell, he got the pole in Vegas. Now, that’s a place I’ve heard of! Lots of lights and gamblin’ and such. Don’t know much about racin’ there, though. He must be real good, too.
Another one was Alex Bowman, they was talkin’ ’bout him gettin’ the pole in Bristol. I think that’s in Tennessee. Or is it Virginia? Oh, I don’t know. My memory ain’t what it used to be. But it doesn’t matter, he got the pole. That’s good for him. All them boys, they’re so fast.

And then they were sayin’ somethin’ about a street race in Chicago. Imagine that! Racin’ them cars right there on the streets! Sounds crazy to me. And some feller named Kyle Larson, he got the pole for that one. Must be a real daredevil, racin’ on them city streets.
But you know, gettin’ that pole ain’t everything. It’s a good start, sure, but it don’t mean you gonna win the whole shebang. Lots of things can happen in them races. Cars crashin’, tires blowin’, all sorts of things. It’s just like life, I reckon. You can start out ahead, but you never know what’s gonna happen down the road.
I remember one time, my old man, bless his soul, he entered a pie-eatin’ contest at the county fair. He was the first one to start, just like that pole position. He ate them pies so fast, you wouldn’t believe it. But then, halfway through, he got a terrible stomach ache. Had to drop out of the whole thing. Didn’t win a darn thing. Just like them NASCAR races, you never know what’s gonna happen.
So, yeah, that Martin Truex Jr., he’s got the pole for that big NASCAR race tomorrow. But we’ll just have to wait and see if he can hold onto that lead. It’s a long race, and anything can happen. He might win, he might not. We just have to watch and find out who is the winner. These NASCAR races are just unpredictable.
Anyway, I hope that answers your question, honey. It’s all a bit confusin’ to me, but I try to keep up with what folks are sayin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go get my cornbread out of the oven. That’s what I really understand – cornbread and apple pie.
