Alright, so today I decided to get myself a new football mouthpiece. I’ve been using the same old one for a while, and honestly, it was starting to look pretty nasty. Plus, I figured a new one might offer a bit more protection.
First, I headed to the local sporting goods store. They’ve got a decent selection, so I figured I’d find something there. Wandered around the football aisle for a bit, checking out the different options.

Finding the Right One
- Some were super bulky, looked like they’d make it hard to breathe.
- Others were really thin, didn’t seem like they’d offer much protection.
- Finally, I found one that seemed like a good middle ground. Not too big, not too small.
It’s one of those boil-and-bite ones, so you gotta customize the fit. I remembered doing this before, so it wasn’t completely new to me, always get kind of antsy to bite down hard enough.
The Fitting Process
Back home, I grabbed a pot, filled it with water, and got it boiling on the stove. Once it was bubbling, I carefully dropped the mouthpiece in. The instructions said to leave it in for about 30 seconds, I try to never get this part wrong so I set a timer to keep it to exactly half a minute.
After the 30 seconds, I carefully fished it out with a spoon (didn’t want to burn myself!). I ran it under some cold water for just a second to cool it down a bit, and then… time for the moment of truth.
I carefully placed it in my mouth, bit down hard, and sucked in to get a good, tight fit. Held it like that for about a minute, making sure it molded to my teeth properly. It felt a little weird at first, all warm and soft, but it quickly started to harden up.
Once it was cooled and set, I took it out and checked the fit. Felt pretty good! Snug, but not uncomfortable. I can still talk (relatively) clearly, which is a bonus.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the new mouthpiece. It feels secure, and I’m confident it’ll do a good job of protecting my teeth. Now I’m ready for the next game, all geared up and ready to go!
