Okay, so I’ve been diving into this whole “best NBA dunker” debate, and man, it’s a rabbit hole! I started out thinking it would be a quick little project, but it turned into a full-blown investigation.
My Dunking Deep Dive
First, I hit up YouTube. You know, just to get a feel for the main contenders. I typed in stuff like “best NBA dunks ever” and “top 10 dunks of all time.” I ended up watching highlight reels for like, two hours straight. My eyes were practically glued to the screen!

Then, I figured I needed to be a bit more organized. So, I made a list of the names that kept popping up: Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Dominique Wilkins, Zach LaVine, and a few others. I wanted to compare them somehow.
I started looking at different criteria. Like, how creative were their dunks? How much power did they have? Did they do it in big games, or just the dunk contest? It got pretty complicated, pretty fast.
- Creativity: Did they just do the same old stuff, or did they come up with something new?
- Power: Did they just kinda float it in, or did they throw it down with authority?
- Context: Was it a game-winning dunk, or just a random Tuesday night?
- Consistency: Did they do the one crazy dunk for once, or did they get crazy for several times?
I spent a good chunk of time just re-watching dunks, trying to rate them on these things. It’s totally subjective, of course, but I tried to be as fair as possible.
Honestly, after all this “research,” I’m still not sure I have a definitive answer. It’s like, they’re all so good in different ways! It might just come down to personal preference. But hey, at least I had a blast watching all those amazing dunks!
