Well, I reckon y’all wanna hear ‘bout this feller, Dan Heefner. Now, he ain’t no stranger to the game o’ baseball, that’s for sure. Dan, he’s been the head coach over at Dallas Baptist University (DBU) since 2008, and let me tell ya, he’s been turnin’ that team into somethin’ mighty fine. Under his watch, the DBU Patriots done made it to the NCAA tournament ten times. Yep, ten! That ain’t no small feat. They even got themselves to a Super Regional back in 2011. If ya ask me, that’s a big ol’ accomplishment for a team like that.
Now, I ain’t much for fancy words and such, but when it comes to baseball, this feller knows his stuff. Dan Heefner’s been makin’ players better every step of the way. Under his leadership, a whole bunch of players have earned themselves All-American honors. How many, you ask? Well, let me just tell ya—24 of ‘em. Twenty-four! That’s a mighty fine number, if you ask me. I reckon that says a lot ‘bout how much he knows ‘bout the game and how much he cares ‘bout his players.

Heefner didn’t just start off all fancy-like at Dallas Baptist. No ma’am, he got his feet wet at Northern Iowa, where he worked under another coach before takin’ the reins himself. That’s where he learned the ropes, and that’s where he started buildin’ up his own style of coaching. Seems like it worked out for him, don’t it?
And it ain’t just ’bout the wins and losses with this feller. Oh no, he’s built a team that’s known for its consistency and resilience. That means they show up, they fight hard, and they keep goin’ even when the odds are stacked against ‘em. Ain’t that the way of the world? Keep pushin’ forward, no matter what.
Now, it’s not just me sayin’ this—people are takin’ notice of what Dan Heefner’s doin’ over there at DBU. Just recently, he got himself named the Conference USA Keith LeClair Co-Coach of the Year. That’s two years in a row, if you can believe it. When folks start handin’ out awards like that, you know you’re doin’ somethin’ right.
So what does this mean for DBU Baseball? Well, it means that the future’s lookin’ mighty bright. DBU is rankin’ high in the college baseball world. As of recently, they were ranked No. 25 by D1Baseball. That ain’t no accident. With a coach like Heefner at the helm, they’re bound to keep growin’ and climbin’ higher.
If you ask me, Dan Heefner’s one of them fellers who’s doin’ things the right way. He ain’t just lookin’ for wins, he’s buildin’ a team that lasts. And in the world of college baseball, that’s the kinda coach folks should be takin’ notes from. I reckon we’ll be seein’ more o’ them Patriots in the tournament for years to come. So, keep your eyes peeled, ‘cause Coach Heefner ain’t slowin’ down anytime soon.
