Alright, so you wanna know how much them NASCAR wheels and tires weigh, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t no feather, that’s for sure. I heard them fellas talkin’ ’bout it down at the store the other day. Sounded like a whole lot of mumbo jumbo to me, but I’ll try to make some sense of it for ya.
Now, them racing wheels, they call ’em “Aero 59” or somethin’ fancy like that. They’re made of steel, real strong stuff, you know? They gotta be, considerin’ how fast them cars go. These fellas were sayin’ one of them wheels is about 15 inches wide and weighs around 27 pounds. That’s a hefty chunk of metal, wouldn’t ya say?

And the tires? Oh, them tires are somethin’ else. They’re big and black and look like they could grip onto anything. I heard they weigh about 24 pounds apiece, without that inner liner thingy they put inside. So, you put that tire on that wheel, and you’re lookin’ at, let’s see…carry the one… that’s about 51 pounds for one wheel and tire set. That’s like holdin’ a good-sized watermelon in each hand!
Now, they were also talkin’ ’bout regular car tires. You know, the kind we got on our trucks and cars. They said them tires are lighter, somewhere between 15 and 25 pounds. And the rims, them metal things the tires go on, they’re about the same as them racin’ wheels, maybe 20 or 30 pounds. So, it ain’t that different, really, just a little lighter here and there.
- NASCAR Wheel: About 27 pounds
- NASCAR Tire: About 24 pounds (without inner liner)
- One NASCAR Wheel & Tire Combo: About 51 pounds
- Regular Car Tire: 15 to 25 pounds
- Regular Car Rim: 20 to 30 pounds
But them NASCAR tires, they gotta be special, right? They were sayin’ that a NASCAR tire on its own is supposed to weigh around 20 pounds. Now, I don’t know why that’s different from the 24 pounds they said earlier, maybe it’s a different kind of tire or somethin’. These fellas were talkin’ about kilograms too, but I ain’t got no time for that fancy stuff. Pounds are good enough for me.
And you know, them NASCAR fellas, they don’t just use one tire, do they? They use a whole bunch of ’em. I heard someone say that a set of four NASCAR tires can weigh over 280 pounds! That’s like carryin’ a small pig around! No wonder them cars need strong fellas to change them tires during the race. I saw it on TV once. Them fellas in the pit crew, they were jumpin’ around like jackrabbits, changin’ them tires faster than you can say “hot dog.”
Now, someone asked if the weight of them tires matters. Well, heck yeah it matters! These fellas were sayin’ that a heavier tire can make the car slower, but it can also grip the road better. And a lighter tire can make the car faster, but it might not grip as good. So, it’s all a big balance, you know? They gotta find the right weight to make the car go as fast as possible but still stay on the track.

So, there you have it. That’s what I know about how much them NASCAR wheels and tires weigh. It’s a whole lot of pounds, that’s for sure. And it seems like every little bit of weight matters when you’re racin’ around that track at a hundred miles an hour. Makes you think, don’t it? All that speed and all that weight, it’s a wonder them cars don’t just fly right off the track. But I guess them fellas know what they’re doin’. They got it down to a science, or somethin’ like that.
Weight is a big deal in racing, not just for the tires and wheels but for the whole car, too. They gotta make sure everything is just right, so the car can go as fast as possible and still be safe. And them tires, well, they’re the only thing connectin’ the car to the road, so they gotta be pretty darn important. That’s all I got to say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper.
