Alright, so I’ve been trying to catch NFL games on the radio lately, and let me tell you, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. But I finally got the hang of it, so I figured I’d share my experience and what I’ve learned.
First off, I realized that every NFL team has its own radio network. This means that each game is broadcasted on local stations, which is pretty cool if you’re in the area. I started by trying to find the local stations for my favorite team. I just used search engines and typed in “[team name] radio station” and it usually popped right up.

- I searched the internet using the keywords like “[team name] radio station”.
- I found the local station list on the team official website.
- I checked the schedule time on the list.
But here’s the thing – if you’re not in the local area, it gets trickier. I was traveling a few weeks ago and really wanted to listen to a game. I thought I was out of luck, but then I did some more digging.
It turns out there are some, I guess you’d call them, “regional” stations that also broadcast games. I found a website that lists all the radio stations for every NFL team, all across the country. I bookmarked that website right away. This website is a lifesaver. It lists every team, their radio network, and even the specific stations that broadcast each game.
So now, whenever I want to listen to a game, I just do these steps:
- I visit the website I found.
- I find my team on the list.
- I look at the stations listed.
- I try tuning in to one of the stations.
Sometimes, I have to try a few different stations before I find one that’s playing the game. I guess it depends on where I am and what stations are in range. But I’ve always managed to find the game eventually.
Tuning In
Actually tuning in can be a bit of a pain sometimes, too. I’ve tried using a regular old radio, one of those portable ones, and sometimes the signal is just terrible. Lots of static and it’s hard to hear the game clearly. I remembered that my car has a radio, too. So I tried to listen to the game in my car and the signal is much better than the portable radio.

I’ve also used the radio on my phone a few times. There are a bunch of radio apps out there, and some of them let you listen to AM stations. That’s been hit or miss, though. Sometimes the app works great, and sometimes it just keeps buffering or cutting out. So I mostly stick to the car radio now, but the phone can work in a pinch.
So, yeah, that’s my journey into the world of AM radio and NFL football. It’s definitely not as easy as just turning on the TV, but there’s something kind of cool about listening to the game on the radio. It’s like stepping back in time a little bit. Plus, it’s nice to be able to listen to the games while I’m driving or doing other stuff around the house.
If you’re an NFL fan and you haven’t tried listening to a game on the radio yet, I definitely recommend giving it a shot. It might take a little bit of effort to figure it all out, but once you do, it’s a pretty cool way to follow the games.
