I’ve been hitting the gym lately, mostly just running and lifting some weights. But the other day, I saw this boxing bag in the corner and thought, “Why not give it a try?” The thing is, I had no idea how heavy those bags were.
So, I started with this one that looked kind of small. I gave it a few jabs, and it barely moved. Okay, that’s too light, I thought. Then I spotted a bigger one, which looked like it would be just right.

I started punching it, and yeah, this was more like it. It swung back and forth, giving me a good workout. I kept at it for a while, and I could feel my arms getting tired. But I still had no clue about the actual weight of the bag.
Guessing Game
- I asked a guy nearby, and he guessed it was around 80 pounds.
- Another person thought it might be closer to 100 pounds.
- There were a few more bags, each a different size, hanging around. Some looked super heavy, probably for those really buff dudes.
It got me curious, so when I got home, I did a little digging online. Turns out, there’s a whole range of weights for boxing bags. They can be anywhere from like 25 pounds all the way up to 200 pounds or more! Who knew?
I realized the one I was using was probably somewhere in the middle, maybe around 70 to 100 pounds, which makes sense. It was a good challenge but not impossible.
Anyway, I’m thinking of adding this to my routine. It’s a fun way to mix things up and let out some steam. Plus, it’s a killer workout. Next time I’m at the gym, I’ll see if they have any labels on the bags. Or maybe I’ll just ask one of the trainers. It’s always good to know what you’re working with, right?
I also learned that they have different types, the ones that hang from ceiling are called “heavy bags”, those standing ones are called “freestanding bags”. And there are even speed bags which are small and filled with air. I have to try one of those! I’ll keep you updated.

So yeah, that’s my little adventure with the boxing bag. I went in blind but came out a bit wiser and a lot more sweaty!
