Okay, so a few days ago, I got really curious about whether or not you could bet on the NFL draft. I mean, it’s a huge event, everyone’s got their opinions on who’s going where, and it seemed like a fun thing to try out. So, I decided to dive in and see what’s up.
First things first, I had to figure out if it was even legal to bet on the draft. This took a bit of digging around. I started by googling “is it legal to bet on the NFL draft”.

After browsing through some information, I found out that betting on the draft is actually legal in many states, but not all of them. You gotta check your own state’s rules to be sure.
Once I knew it was okay to bet where I am, I started looking for places to actually place a bet. I’d used some sportsbooks before for regular season games, so I checked those out first. Turns out, most of the big-name sportsbooks do offer NFL draft betting. Nice!
Finding the Right Bets
Now comes the fun part – figuring out what to bet on. This is where it got a little overwhelming, to be honest. There are so many different kinds of bets you can make! You can bet on:
- Who will be the first overall pick – This one’s pretty straightforward.
- Which player will be drafted by a specific team – A bit trickier, you really gotta know your teams.
- The over/under on when a player will be drafted – Like, will this guy be picked before or after the 10th pick?
- And a bunch of other stuff – Like, how many quarterbacks will be drafted in the first round? It’s wild.
I spent a good chunk of time just looking at all the options. I checked out some mock drafts from experts, read some player analyses, and tried to get a feel for what might happen.
After a lot of back and forth, I decided to place a few small bets. Nothing crazy, just enough to make the draft even more exciting. I put a little money on who I thought would be the first overall pick, and I also made a couple of over/under bets on some players I was following.

The draft finally rolled around, and let me tell you, it was way more intense than I expected! Every pick had me on the edge of my seat, checking to see if my bets were going to hit.
In the end, I won some and lost some. It was a bit of a wash, but honestly, it was a blast. Betting on the draft definitely added a whole new level of excitement to the event. I’ll probably do it again next year, but maybe with a bit more research beforehand!
It is worth noting that all of these are for entertainment purposes only, and I strongly advise against excessive or irresponsible gambling. Have fun but be careful!
