Alright, guys, so the other day I was watching NASCAR, and I got to thinking, “Just how many people are on those pit crews?” It looks like a swarm of bees attacking the car, but I wanted the specifics. So, I did what any curious person would do – I hit the internet!
My Deep Dive into Pit Crew Numbers
First, I started with a simple search. Nothing fancy, just “how many pit crew members in nascar.”

I scrolled through a few articles, and guess what? It’s not as many as you might think. The main part of the crew, the guys who actually go “over the wall” to work on the car, is just five people!
Here’s the breakdown of what I found:
- Two Tire Changers: These guys are fast. I mean, really fast. They’re the ones unbolting and bolting the wheels.
- One Tire Carrier: This person’s job is pretty self-explanatory. They bring the new tires and take away the old ones.
- One Jackman: This dude, or dudette, is in charge of jacking up the car so the tires can be changed. Crucial job!
- One Gasman: Also pretty obvious. Gotta fuel up the car, can not have a racing car without “juice”.
So, five people, doing all that work in a matter of seconds. Seriously impressive!。
I also learned that some teams might have extra people, but it appears that the core “over the wall” team is this group of five.
Anyway, that’s what I found out. Just a little bit of NASCAR trivia for you all!
