Okay, so I’ve been seeing these braided baseball necklaces everywhere lately, and I gotta admit, they look pretty cool. I’m not even a huge baseball fan, but the style is just so sporty and casual. I decided I had to figure out how to make one myself. My first thought? I’d need to get some materials for this craft.
Getting Started: Gathering Supplies
First things first, I needed to gather some stuff. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, just in case this whole thing turned into a giant mess. So here’s what I grabbed:

- Some old baseballs: I want to see if my friend have one or two.
- Some kind of cord: My old shoelaces might work, but I had to find the right length.
- Scissors: Pretty basic, gotta cut stuff.
- Maybe some beads?: I saw some necklaces with beads, and I thought that might be a nice touch.
The Deconstruction Phase
Alright, this is where things got a little… messy. It destory the baseball * out, taking apart a baseball is harder than it looks!
First, I tried to just kind of… peel it apart? Yeah, that didn’t work. Then I grabbed the scissors and started carefully cutting the stitches. It took FOREVER. Seriously, my hands were cramping up. And the inside of the baseball? It’s just layers and layers of tightly wound yarn.
Eventually, I managed to get enough of the leather covering off to work with. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a start.

Braiding Time (and Frustration)
Okay, so I had my strips of baseball leather, and I had my cord. Now for the braiding part. I thought I knew how to braid.I used to make friendship bracelets all the time as a kid, right? Turns out, braiding with thick, uneven strips of leather is a whole different ballgame.
I tried a few different braiding techniques. A three-strand braid was a total disaster. The leather was just too bulky. I then thought of the four-strand braid. Same * frustraing!
I also experimented with adding beads. I tried stringing them onto the cord before braiding, and I tried weaving them in as I went. Let’s just say there were a lot of beads rolling around on the floor.
Finally, (Sort of) Success!
After many, many failed attempts, I finally ended up with something that vaguely resembled a necklace. It’s definitely not perfect. The braid is kind of lumpy, and the beads are… well, let’s just say they’re not evenly distributed.
But you know what? I made it! It’s unique, it’s got that handmade charm, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. Plus, I learned a valuable lesson: Sometimes, the coolest-looking things are way harder to make than you think!

Would I do it again? Maybe. If I do, I’ll probably invest in some thinner leather and a lot more patience. But for now, I’m pretty happy with my slightly wonky, totally unique baseball necklace.
