Well, lemme tell ya somethin’ ’bout them basketball hoops. You see ’em all over, especially on the TV with them NBA games. But how high are them things, really? I always wondered, you know.
So, this here’s the scoop on them NBA hoops. They’re high, I tell ya! They ain’t like the little ones we used to have back in my day. Nope, these are way up there. It is 10 feet. Ten whole feet! Can you believe it?

How High Is That Hoop?
Now, I heard from someone, who heard from someone else, that they always been that tall. From the get-go, they said. Ten feet. That’s taller than any man I ever knew! I reckon them basketball players are some kinda tall fellas to be reachin’ up that high. Jumpin’ and dunkin’ and all that.
I’ve seen them hoops at the school, too, where the young’uns play. And guess what? They’re 10 feet high, too. It’s the same. Whether you’re a big shot NBA player or just startin’ out, you gotta shoot for that same height. It is fair for everyone.
- Ten feet, that’s the rule.
- Same for the big leagues and the little leagues, mostly.
- Makes it fair, I suppose.
- But lordy, that’s high!
Why So High, Though?
Now, why they gotta be so high? Well, I don’t rightly know. Some fella named Naismith, they say he’s the one who started this whole basketball thing. And he decided on 10 feet. Don’t ask me why. Maybe he was a tall drink of water himself. Who knows?
But 10 feet it is, and 10 feet it’s gonna stay, I reckon. They ain’t changin’ it now. Not after all these years. It is a long time! It is NBA standard.
I remember one time, my grandson, he tried to put up a hoop in our backyard. He wanted it to be just like the NBA, you see. Well, he got out his measuring tape and everything. Climbed up on a ladder, bless his heart. And you know what? He made it exactly 10 feet.

- My grandson, he’s a good boy.
- Tried to make his own NBA hoop.
- 10 feet high, just like the real deal.
- He’s a good shot, too!
Ten Feet – That’s a Lot!
It is still a long way up, if you ask me. I couldn’t reach that high, not even if I stood on a stack of bibles. But these young folks today, they just fly through the air. It’s somethin’ to see, I tell ya. They jump so high, like their feet got wings.
So, next time you see a basketball game, you just remember, that hoop is 10 feet high. And it ain’t easy to get that ball in there. Takes a lot of practice, I imagine. And a good pair of legs for jumpin’!
And them NBA players, they make it look so easy. But it ain’t. Trust me. I’ve seen my grandson try. It takes work. Lots of it.
- NBA hoops are high.
- 10 feet, to be exact.
- It’s a long way up!
Always Been Ten Feet
It’s just the way it is, I reckon. Like the sky is blue and the grass is green. NBA hoops are 10 feet high. Always have been, likely always will be. It is good to know that.
So there you have it. Everything this old gal knows about them basketball hoops. They’re high. They’re 10 feet high. And that’s all there is to it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my apple pie. It’s probably burnin’. Just like them NBA players on the court, always on fire!
But hey, at least they ain’t gotta worry about reachin’ no higher than 10 feet. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? That’s the NBA hoop height for ya.
