Today, I was watching a tennis match, and it got me thinking, “Are tennis balls hollow?” I mean, they bounce like crazy, right? So, I decided to find out for myself.
Getting a Tennis Ball
First things first, I needed a tennis ball. I went to the local sports store and picked up a fresh can. You know that satisfying “pop” sound when you open a new can? Love it!

Inspecting the Ball
Okay, so I had the ball in my hand. It felt pretty firm, but I could squeeze it a bit. I bounced it a few times, and yep, definitely bouncy. But was it hollow? Only one way to find out!
Cutting It Open
Time to get serious. I grabbed a sharp knife from the kitchen (don’t try this at home without adult supervision, kids!). Carefully, I started sawing into the ball. It took a bit of effort, but eventually, I managed to cut it in half.
The Big Reveal
And there it was! The inside of the tennis ball was completely empty. Just air. No little men inside making it bounce, no springs, just good old air. I guess that explains why it’s so light and bouncy.
My Thoughts
- It’s pretty cool how something so simple can be so effective.
- I guess the design of the tennis ball is all about that hollow core.
- Now I know why they say tennis is a game of elegance and strategy – even the ball’s design is clever!
So, there you have it. My little experiment confirmed that tennis balls are indeed hollow. It was a fun little adventure, and I learned something new today. What will I dissect next? Only time will tell!
