Okay, so, I really wanted to figure out this whole NFL Draft thing. It’s always on TV in April, and everyone makes such a big deal about it, but I never really got what the fuss was about. So, I decided to dive in and see what it’s all about. Here’s what I did.
First, I started reading articles, like a ton of them. Most of them were too complex and I just wanted to get the gist of it. But, the more I read, the more I started to understand the basics. Basically, it’s a big event where NFL teams get to pick new players from college football. And the order they get to pick is based on how well they did the previous season.

Then, I wanted to get into the details. How is the draft order actually determined? It turns out that teams that didn’t make it to the playoffs get to pick first, and the team with the worst record gets the very first pick. Teams that did make the playoffs pick later, from 21st to 32nd. It makes sense, they’re giving the weaker teams a chance to get stronger.
I also learned that there are seven rounds in the draft. Each round has 32 picks, one for each team. But, it’s not set in stone. Teams can trade their picks, so the order can change a lot during the draft.
My Mock Draft
After I got a handle on the rules, I thought, why not try doing a mock draft? I used some of the rankings I found online, and I tried to think about what each team might need. For example, if a team really needs a new quarterback, I’d try to pick a top-ranked quarterback for them.
It was actually pretty fun! I started with the team with the worst record and went down the list. I didn’t know all the college players, so I relied on what the experts were saying. I picked a quarterback for this team, a defensive player for that team, and so on. Of course, I’m no expert, so my mock draft was probably way off, but it helped me understand the strategy involved.
Doing the mock draft made me realize how complicated the real NFL Draft must be. There’s so much to consider, like player skills, team needs, and even potential trades. It’s not just about picking the best players, it’s about building a team that can win.

So, yeah, that’s how I learned about the NFL Draft. It was a cool experience. I went from knowing nothing to actually doing a mock draft myself. Now I’m actually looking forward to watching the next draft and seeing how close my predictions were. Maybe I should become a sports analyst!
