Okay, so I’ve been seeing tennis dresses everywhere lately, and I finally caved and bought one. They just looked so darn cute and comfy! But then I got it home and realized, “Uh, how do I actually style this thing?” I didn’t want to look like I was about to hit the courts all the time. So, I started playing around with different looks, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey!
First off, I tried the obvious: sneakers. I have these white classic sneakers, and I paired them with the dress. It’s a no-brainer, right? It worked, but it was a little too… expected. I felt like I should be carrying a tennis racket, even though I haven’t played tennis since I was ten!

- Tried classic white sneakers.
- Felt too “sporty.”
Next, I wanted to dress it up a bit. I dug out a pair of wedges – the espadrille kind – and threw on a denim jacket. This was better! It felt more like a brunch outfit or something I could wear to a casual get-together. The denim jacket definitely helped to tone down the sporty vibe of the dress.
Then, I got a little more adventurous. I have this oversized, chunky cardigan that I love. I put that on over the dress, and it was a total game-changer! Suddenly, the tennis dress transformed into something cozy and chic. I added some ankle boots, and boom! It was the perfect outfit for a cooler day. I even wore this combo to a friend’s birthday dinner, and I got so many compliments.
- Wore a denim jacket with wedges.
- Added an oversized cardigan and ankle boots.
- Got lots of compliments!
Accessorizing is Key!
I also experimented with accessories. A baseball cap gave it a cool, laid-back feel. On another day, I wore a wide-brimmed hat and some sunglasses, and it felt totally different – more like a summer vacation outfit. And don’t even get me started on jewelry! A simple necklace or some earrings can really change the whole look.
So, after a lot of trial and error, I feel like I’ve finally cracked the code on how to style a tennis dress. It’s way more versatile than I initially thought. You can dress it up, dress it down, make it sporty, make it chic… the possibilities are endless! It’s all about experimenting and finding what works for you. Just don’t be afraid to try new things and mix and match different pieces from your wardrobe. You might be surprised at what you come up with!
