Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz around betting on the NFL Draft, and honestly, I was curious. Could you actually make money doing this? I decided to give it a shot this year, just to see what all the fuss was about.
My “Expert” Research (aka Googling)
First things first, I knew absolutely nothing about the draft prospects. Zero. Zilch. So, I started by, you guessed it, hitting up Google. I typed in things like “NFL Draft predictions,” “mock drafts,” and “best draft prospects.” I spent a good few hours just reading articles and watching highlight reels – felt like I was back in college cramming for an exam!

I found a bunch of websites with mock drafts, some from big-name sports networks, others from random bloggers. I figured the more I read, the better, right? I tried to look for patterns, like which players kept popping up in the top 10, or which teams were consistently linked to certain positions.
Finding a Place to Bet
Next, I needed to find somewhere to actually place a bet. I checked a few of the big-name sportsbooks. I made sure that I was legally allowed to do it and started to look at the options to see which one looked easiest to use.
Making My Bets (and Sweating Bullets)
Based on my “research,” I decided to keep it simple. I picked a few bets that seemed relatively safe, like who would be the first quarterback drafted, and the over/under on the number of wide receivers taken in the first round. I didn’t go crazy – I just put down a small amount on each, treating it more like an experiment than a get-rich-quick scheme.
Draft Night!
Watching the draft was way more exciting than I expected! It was actually pretty fun to see if my “predictions” (really, educated guesses) would pan out. Every time a pick was announced, I was checking my bets, holding my breath, and yelling at the TV like a crazy person.
The Results (Drumroll Please…)
So, did I become an instant millionaire? Nope. Did I lose my shirt? Nope again! I actually ended up winning a little bit of money. Nothing life-changing, but enough to buy a few extra coffees. More importantly, I had a blast doing it. It made watching the draft way more engaging, and I learned a surprising amount about the incoming rookie class.

Would I do it again? Probably! It’s not something I’d do all the time, but for a major event like the NFL Draft, it added a little extra layer of excitement. Just remember to do your homework, set a budget, and don’t expect to retire early on your winnings!
