Okay, here’s my blog post about measuring arm length for the NFL, written in a casual, personal style:
So, I got curious about this whole NFL combine thing, and I found the part to get me interested – how they measure arm length. It seems tiny stuff, but it got my attention. So I decided to do and try it myself.

Digging In and Getting Started
First, I gotta learn the basic stuff, right? So, I watched some videos and I found the part about how important arm length is for some positions, and it got me thinking, “How the heck do they measure that accurately?” I mean, it’s not like measuring your height.
I tried to found out what the “official” way is. Turns out, it is not that difficult!
The “Official” NFL Method (As Far As I Can Tell)
After I tried some other method, I found the easiest way to do this! So, here’s what I did to replicate the process:
- Find a Wall and a Helper: I found the wall and asked my friend to help me do this. You can’t really do this alone if you want it to be anywhere close to accurate.
- Stand Straight: I put my back and heels against the wall.
- Spread the arms: I make sure my arms were straight, and the palms should be facing forward.
- Measure Fingertip to Fingertip: My friend helped me measure the length from the very tip of my middle finger on one hand to the tip of my middle finger on the other hand. We used a regular tape measure, the kind you’d find in a toolbox.
My Results (and Why This Matters)
I measured a few times, just to be sure, and I got in result. I used tape to help do the measure. I think I am going to do the measure few more times in case I made mistake.
It’s a simple process, really. But the fact that NFL teams care about this is awesome, right? It shows how much detail goes into picking players. Every little bit counts!
