Okay, so I kept seeing these plaid hats popping up on my screen during NFL games today, and I was like, “What’s the deal?” I gotta admit, I’m not the biggest football fanatic, but I do enjoy watching the games, and this was just too noticeable to ignore. So, I dove in to figure it out.
My Little Investigation
First, I paused the game (thank goodness for DVR!) and took a closer look at the hats. They weren’t just any plaid, they were specifically… well, I wasn’t sure what kind of plaid at first. They seemed to be on coaches and staff, not really the players on the field.

Then, I grabbed my phone and started Googling. I typed in things like “NFL plaid hats” and “football coaches wearing plaid.” It took a few tries, playing around with the search words, to get something useful.
I scrolled through a bunch of articles. Honestly, my eyes started to glaze over with all the football jargon, but I kept at it. I finally found a couple of articles.
Putting It All Together
So, after going through all of those articles, I think I get it. And I was not able to find an explanation as to why this year, it looked like a bunch of coaches decided to wear them.
