Well, bless my soul, gotta talk ’bout that NASCAR race comin’ up on Sunday. Who’s that fella on the pole, y’know? That top spot. Heard it on the radio, but these old ears ain’t what they used to be. Gotta get ready for Sunday. It is a big day.
That Martin Truex Jr., he’s the one on the pole for Sunday. I heard someone say it. This Sunday’s race, that XFINITY 500, it’s gonna be somethin’, I reckon. He’s gonna be leadin’ the whole dang pack! He must be one heck of a driver. That track, it is Martinsville Speedway. They say this is his last full-time race. I heard it from my neighbor. She knows everything. He is retiring, whatever that means. He must be tired of running in circles.

I remember back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy NASCAR. Just old carts and horses. But these young folks, they love their fast cars. My grandson, he’s glued to that TV screen every Sunday. It is too loud for me.
- That Martin Truex Jr., he’s leadin’ the race.
- It’s called the XFINITY 500.
- It’s at that Martinsville Speedway.
- He is retiring from full-time race. I don’t know what it means.
Now, who else is racin’? That Chase Elliott, I heard his name too. He’s right up there with Martin Truex Jr.. And that William Byron, he ain’t far behind. I think they are all good boys. They know how to drive. These young folks, they sure do love to go fast. And they sure do get famous.
There’s that other fella, Michael McDowell. Won somethin’ called the Geico 500 pole, I think. Sounds important. He is a good driver. But he is not on the pole for this Sunday. I heard that he is on the pole for another race. It is Enjoy Illinois 300. And it is at World Wide Technology Raceway. That’s what they say on TV. But this Sunday, it is Martin on the pole. Don’t forget that.
Then there’s this other race, with a fella named Christopher Bell. He’s on the pole for that one. Seems like everyone’s gettin’ a turn at that pole position. It is at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. They’re always racin’ somewhere, ain’t they? Keeps ’em busy, I suppose. Keep them young folks out of trouble, I reckon.
This NASCAR, it’s a big deal. Lots of folks watchin’, lots of hollerin’. All them cars goin’ round and round. I don’t know how they keep track of who’s winnin’. But it’s excitin’, I guess. They like it, and that’s all that matters.

My grandson, he tried to explain it all to me once. Somethin’ ’bout points and laps and pit stops. Sounds complicated. All I know is, that Martin Truex Jr. is startin’ up front this Sunday. Hope he has a good race. Hope they all do. It’s a tough job, drivin’ that fast.
I remember one time, my old man, he took me to a race. Wasn’t NASCAR, just a local thing. But it was loud and dusty, and everyone was yellin’. I didn’t understand much, but it was fun to watch. These cars these days, they’re a whole different breed. So shiny, so fast. It is like a rocket.
So, yeah, that Martin Truex Jr., he’s the one to watch this Sunday. He is on the pole. He’s got that pole position. And that Martinsville Speedway, it’s gonna be packed, I bet. Lots of folks want to see that race. And it is his last race. He is going to take a rest. I am sure he will have a good time.
I might even watch a little bit of it myself, if the TV ain’t too loud. Just to see what all the fuss is about. See that Martin Truex Jr. take off from that pole. It should be a good race. It is on Sunday. It is a big deal. Hope it is not raining.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say ’bout that NASCAR race. Just remember, Martin Truex Jr. on the pole for the XFINITY 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Don’t forget that! It is on Sunday. Sunday is a big day for race.
