Okay, so the other day, I got it in my head that I needed to finally understand boxing weight classes. I mean, I watch fights sometimes, but I’m always like, “Wait, what weight is this guy again?” So, I decided to do something about it.
First, I just straight-up googled “boxing weight classes kg.” Seriously, that’s all I did. I figured there had to be a simple chart or something out there.

And yep, there were tons! But, honestly, a lot of them were kind of confusing. Different websites had slightly different numbers, some had weird names I’d never heard of… it was a mess.
So, I decided to make my own dang chart. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen – yeah, old school, I know – and started jotting down the weight classes I saw most often.
My Process
- I opened up like five different browser tabs with different boxing websites.
- I look the information that many websites has the same data.
- Then, I started writing down the names, like “Heavyweight,” “Lightweight,” all that stuff.
- Next to each name, I wrote down the weight range in kilograms. This was the tricky part, because, like I said, the numbers weren’t always the same.
- I basically went through and found the most common numbers for each class. Kind of like averaging them out, but not really… more like eyeballing it.
After staring at numbers and names for, like, an hour, I finally had a chart that made sense to me. It wasn’t perfect, and I’m sure some boxing expert would probably laugh at it, but it was good enough for me to get a general idea of who’s fighting who.
Now, when I see a fight announced, I can at least have a clue what’s going on. I’m not totally lost anymore! Next time you see a fight, remember old me, scribbling on a piece of paper, trying to figure this stuff out. Maybe this is very helpful for you, lol.
