Okay, so I wanted to get better at Wii Tennis, specifically my serve. I’d seen people online hitting these crazy fast serves, and I wanted in on that action. Here’s how I went about figuring out the “power serve.”
Experimenting with Timing
First, I just started messing around. I swung the Wii Remote at different times during the toss. I tossed the ball up and then:
- Swung super early.
- Swung kinda early.
- Swung what felt like “on time.”
- Swung late.
- Swung super late.
Honestly, most of the time, I just ended up with normal serves. Nothing special. But, every now and then, I’d get a little bit more speed. It felt totally random, though.
Focusing on the Peak
Then, I started paying really close attention to the ball toss. The Mii character throws the ball up, and it hangs there for a split second, right? I figured that must be the key.
I started trying to time my swing so that I’d hit the ball right at the very top of the toss. Like, the instant it stops going up and is about to start falling down. I practiced this over and over. Toss, watch, swing. Toss, watch, swing.
Getting the “Feel”
It’s hard to describe, but you kinda get a “feel” for it after a while. It’s not about thinking, “Okay, now!” It’s more about getting into a rhythm. My arm and the Mii on screen started to move together.
I started using my wrist snap to try to hit at the very top and pull down to get maximum power.

Finally, Power Serves!
After messing around like this for, I dunno, maybe 30 minutes, I started hitting power serves more consistently! Not every time, but way more often than before. It was awesome! The ball would practically blast off the racket, and the sound effect was different, too – more of a “whoosh!”
I’m still not perfect at it, but I can definitely get those power serves going when I want to. It just takes practice and getting that timing down. And, y’know, a little bit of luck, maybe!
