Okay, so I’ve been curious about how fast those F1 cars really go. I mean, we see them zoom past on TV, but what’s the actual top speed?
I started by, you know, hitting up the internet. Just a simple search, nothing fancy. Typed in “top speed of F1” and boom – tons of stuff popped up.

I started digging through some articles and forum posts. A lot of people were talking about different records, different tracks, and all that. It got a bit confusing, to be honest.
My “Research” Process
- First step: I spent some time just reading. Articles, forums, you name it.
- Then: I tried to filter out the, well, less reliable sources. Some of those forum posts were a bit… out there.
- Next up:I looked for consistent numbers. Was everyone saying roughly the same thing, or were the numbers all over the place?
It got clearer what record I was looking for.
It seems the number I found was, the highest speed ever recorded during a race was around 372.5 km/h (that’s about 231.4 mph). I found that it was set by Valtteri Bottas.
So, there you have it. That’s how I figured out the insane top speed of an F1 car. Pretty wild, right?
