You know, there’s this lady, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney Thigpen, who done went and made quite a name for herself. Now, I ain’t no expert on them fancy athletes, but I do know when someone’s done somethin’ special, folks around here start talkin’. This woman, she’s been all over them gymnastic floors, like a real star. She used to be a gymnast at LSU, and let me tell ya, she didn’t just do it for fun. She won big! Not once, but twice, she became a national champion. That ain’t no small thing, I reckon.
Now, after all them hard years of practicing and twistin’ her body in ways I can’t even imagine, Ashleigh didn’t just stop. Nope, she kept right on going. She came back to LSU, not as a gymnast, but as a coach. I suppose that’s the real mark of someone who loves what they do, when they stick around and teach the young ones how to do it too. She didn’t just hang her shoes up and forget about the sport. Instead, she passed on her knowledge to the next bunch of hopefuls who probably looked up to her just like how folks talk about the greats.
And you know what else? Back in 2021, they decided to put her name up in lights, so to speak. They inducted her into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Now, I don’t know much about them halls and whatnot, but I reckon it’s a big honor. You get your name up there, you know you’ve done something right. It’s like the whole town’s proud of ya, just like when a young’un leaves the farm and comes back with a trophy or two.
But hold on, it don’t stop there. Ashleigh, bless her heart, also worked as a volunteer coach. She didn’t have to do it, but she did. She gave back, like how folks around here always do when they’ve made it big. Ain’t that the mark of a good soul? Giving back to the community, making sure the future’s bright for the next generation? I’m sure them young gymnasts at LSU are mighty thankful for everything she’s done for them.
As for Ashleigh herself, well, she’s now a part of something bigger than just her gymnastics days. She’s part of that legacy, that history. People’ll be talkin’ about her years from now, just like they talk about the other big names who’ve done well for themselves. A two-time national champ, Hall of Famer, and a coach who cared enough to stick around. If that don’t deserve some respect, I don’t know what does.
Now, don’t you forget about it, because folks like Ashleigh Clare-Kearney Thigpen show us all how hard work and heart can take ya far, whether you’re tumbling on mats or lifting others up. She’s left a real mark, and I’d say that’s a mighty fine thing.
