Well, let me tell you, there are all sorts of balls out there, and not all of ’em are big like a baseball. Some are much smaller, and you might be surprised by just how tiny some of ’em can get! So, if you’ve ever wondered about balls smaller than a baseball, I’ll tell ya about a few. Don’t go thinkin’ that baseball is the smallest thing in the world. Nope! There are plenty of little ones out there!
Golf Ball

First off, you got your golf ball. Now, I ain’t talkin’ ‘bout the ones that get hit outta the park every time. No, no! A golf ball is real small, not much bigger than a walnut. It’s got a diameter of about 1.68 inches. So, when you compare it to a baseball, it’s a good bit smaller. You won’t catch me hittin’ one with a bat, though, no sir! I’ll leave that to the folks with fancy sticks and their little white balls. But I sure know it’s smaller than a baseball, that’s for sure!
Tennis Ball
Then there’s the tennis ball. Now, don’t go thinking that tennis players are out there using baseballs on the court! A tennis ball is smaller than a baseball too. The diameter is about 2.7 inches. They’re a little bigger than a golf ball but still not as big as a baseball. It’s nice and bouncy, though, so you can really get it flyin’ through the air when you smack it with a racket. I remember seein’ folks playin’ tennis in the park when I was younger. They always looked like they was having a good time, hittin’ that little yellow ball all over the place.
Ping Pong Ball
Now, don’t even get me started on the ping pong ball! It’s the tiniest of them all! It’s smaller than a golf ball, smaller than a tennis ball, and even smaller than a baseball. It’s only about 1.57 inches in diameter. And it’s real light too. You could blow on it, and it’d probably fly across the table! People play all sorts of fast games with those little things, but they sure don’t look too impressive sittin’ on the table. They’re real small, but I reckon they make the game fun and quick.

BBs and Marbles
And then, if you want to get real tiny, you got your BBs and marbles. A BB, well, it’s just a little metal ball that’s smaller than all of these other ones. It’s about the size of a small pea, maybe even smaller. Ain’t much use for ‘em unless you’re shootin’ at targets or maybe playin’ a game with the kids. Marbles, on the other hand, are smaller than a golf ball too, but they come in all sorts of colors. You can find marbles real cheap at the market, and some folks like to collect ‘em. You ever seen how they roll around? They just slip and slide like little smooth stones!
Table Tennis Ball in the Olympics
Now, you might’ve heard that table tennis balls are the smallest balls used in the Olympics. They’re only about 4 centimeters in diameter, and let me tell ya, they don’t weigh much at all! Just about 2.7 grams. Now that’s light as a feather! They got the smallest balls in Olympic sports, no doubt about it. When them athletes get goin’ with that little ball, they sure make it look easy, but I know it’s a real skill to keep it from flyin’ off the table with all the spin they put on it.
Other Little Balls

Besides all these, there’s a whole bunch of other little balls out there. Some people even use small rubber balls for games, and they might be smaller than a tennis ball or a ping pong ball, depending on the game they’re playin’. You might even find some small rubber balls at the toy store, just sittin’ on a shelf, ready to be kicked around by little ones in the yard.
So, you see, baseball ain’t the smallest ball out there by a long shot! From golf balls to ping pong balls, there’s all sorts of tiny balls that might surprise ya. Next time someone asks ya what’s smaller than a baseball, you just tell ‘em about all these little ones! And maybe you’ll even find yourself playin’ a game with a few of ‘em someday.
