Alright, let’s talk about socks with them tennis shoes, you know, the ones you wear for… well, for tennis, I guess, or just walkin’ around. I ain’t no fancy expert, but I know a thing or two ‘bout keeping your feet comfy.
First off, you gotta wear socks, ya hear? Don’t be goin’ around barefoot in them shoes. That’s just askin’ for trouble. It gets stinky and your feet will sweat somethin’ awful. Then you get them… whatchamacallits… infections, yeah, them nasty things. Nobody wants that!

Now, if you’re one of them stubborn ones who likes to go without socks, well, you better air them shoes out good. Leave ‘em out for a couple of days, maybe put some of that… that foot powder stuff in ‘em. And wash your feet! Don’t be a pigpen. Clean feet are happy feet, that’s what my old man used to say, bless his soul.
Okay, so you’re wearin’ socks. Good. But what kind? Well, that depends. See, there’s all sorts of socks out there. Some thick, some thin, some short, some tall… it’s enough to make your head spin!
- For everyday wear: I like the regular ones, you know, not too thick, not too thin. Just somethin’ to keep your feet from rubbin’ against the shoes. Colors? Well, black’s always good. Hides the dirt. Gray is alright too. And navy blue, that’s a nice color. My grandson, he likes red socks with black shoes. Says it looks cool. Kids these days, what do they know?
- For playing tennis or, you know, when you’re walkin’ a lot: You might want somethin’ a bit thicker. Something with a little cushion. Keeps your feet from gettin’ sore. And make sure they fit good! Too loose and they’ll bunch up. Too tight and they’ll cut off your circulation. You don’t want that, no sir. My neighbor’s cousin got one of them foot thingies because his sock was too tight. Had to go to the hospital and everything.
There’s them fancy socks too, the ones with all the bells and whistles. They got extra padding here and there, and they’re made of special stuff that’s supposed to wick away sweat. I don’t know about all that. Seems like a waste of money to me. But if you got the money to burn, go ahead. Just don’t come cryin’ to me when your socks cost more than your shoes.
And what about white socks? Well, they look alright with white shoes, I guess. But they get dirty so fast! You spend all your time washin’ ‘em. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Unless you are playing tennis. You gotta wear the white socks, otherwise, they don’t let you play. That’s what my daughter told me, she plays on that fancy court in the town.
So, to sum it up: wear socks with your tennis shoes. Pick somethin’ comfy and that fits good. Dark colors are practical. And don’t spend a fortune on fancy socks unless you got money to throw away. That’s my two cents. You take it or leave it.

And remember, keep them feet clean! That’s the most important thing. Wash ‘em good, dry ‘em good, and put on a fresh pair of socks every day. Your feet will thank you for it.
Now, I gotta go make some dinner. All this talk about socks is makin’ me hungry. You take care now, ya hear?
One more thing, about them sizes, make sure you get the right size. Too big and you are gonna be tripping all over yourself. Too small and, like I said, your foot is gonna get all… you know… constricted. You can ask the store people to help ya. Don’t be shy. They are there to help ya. They have those little measuring thingies, use them. Don’t just guess. My husband, he always guessed and ended up with socks that were too small. His toes were always crammed in there like sardines. Poor fella.
Oh, and one last, last thing. Don’t be wearin’ the same socks two days in a row. That’s just nasty. Even if they don’t look dirty, they are. Trust me on this. Wash your socks after every wear. It’s just common sense, really.
Alright, I’m done now. Go on, get yourself some good socks and wear them with them tennis shoes. And have a nice day!
