Alright, listen up, y’all. We gotta talk about this thing they call “tennis elbow.” Sounds fancy, but lemme tell ya, it ain’t no fun. Hurts like a son-of-a-gun, right here on the outside of your elbow. You know, like when you been carryin’ too many water buckets or wringin’ out clothes all day.
What is this tennis elbow thing anyway?

Well, it ain’t just for them tennis folks, that’s for sure. It’s what happens when you do the same thing over and over, grippin’ and twistin’ your wrist and arm. Thinkin’ about it, I reckon it could come from anything. Like, you know, fixin’ fences all day, or maybe even choppin’ vegetables for a big family dinner. Even typin’ on that there computer thingy all day can do it, believe it or not. Or clickin’ that mouse thing, click, click, click, all day long.
So, what kinda stuff should you NOT be doin’ if your elbow’s achin’?
Now, this is important. When that elbow starts hollerin’, you gotta listen. Some things just make it worse. You gotta lay off the heavy stuff for a bit.
- Stay away from them pull-ups. You know, where you hang from a bar and pull yourself up? Yeah, that’s a no-no. Puts a whole lotta strain right where it hurts.
- Push-ups ain’t your friend either. Gettin’ down on the ground and pushin’ yourself up? Nope. That’ll make your elbow scream.
- And them bench presses? Forget about it! Lying on your back and pushin’ that heavy bar up? That’s just askin’ for trouble. You’ll be wringin’ your hands in pain later, I tell ya.
See, all them things, they make you grip and push and twist, and that’s exactly what your poor elbow don’t need right now. It’s like tryin’ to fix a wobbly table by slammin’ more stuff on top of it – ain’t gonna work!
But that don’t mean you gotta sit around like a bump on a log.

There’s still plenty you can do. In fact, movin’ it a little bit, in the right way, can actually help that elbow get better. But we ain’t talkin’ about no fancy exercises here. Just simple stuff.
Here’s some things you can do:
Think about gentle movements. Like, you know, stretchin’ your arm out real slow, and then bendin’ it back. Or makin’ little circles with your wrist. Nothin’ that makes it hurt, mind you. If it hurts, stop right away! And don’t go tryin’ to lift no heavy feed sacks or nothin’ like that. Take it easy, grandma’s speed, you know?
And another thing, don’t be tryin’ to tough it out. If it hurts, go see a doctor. They got ways of makin’ it better, maybe some shots or somethin’. Don’t be stubborn like my old mule, Jedediah. He wouldn’t listen to nothin’ or nobody, and ended up with a bum leg. You don’t want a bum elbow, do ya?
So, to sum it all up: if your elbow’s hurtin’, lay off the heavy stuff, especially them pull-ups, push-ups, and bench presses. Do some gentle movin’ around, but nothin’ that makes it hurt. And if it ain’t gettin’ better, go see a doctor. That’s all there is to it. Now go on, and take care of yourselves, y’hear?

And remember, this ain’t just for tennis players. It’s for anyone who uses their arms a lot. Could be you workin’ in a factory, or maybe you’re a carpenter, or even just a plain ol’ housewife like me who’s always got her hands full. This elbow trouble, it don’t discriminate. So be careful and listen to your body.
One last thing, don’t go gettin’ all worried about it. Most of the time, tennis elbow gets better with a little rest and some TLC. Just gotta be patient and give it time to heal. And for goodness sake, don’t go tryin’ to be a hero and liftin’ things you shouldn’t be liftin’! That’s just askin’ for trouble.
