Today I wanted to try something new and exciting – slip boxing. I’ve seen some videos online and it looked pretty cool, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
First things first, I needed to find a good spot. I cleared out some space in my living room, making sure there was nothing I could trip over or knock down. Safety first, right?

Next, I needed something to simulate punches. I didn’t have any boxing gloves or pads, so I got creative. I grabbed a couple of soft pillows and hung them from the ceiling using some old ropes. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked. I made sure to give it a few test swings to ensure the ropes and pillows were secure.
Now, the fun part. I started by just moving around the pillows, getting a feel for the rhythm and movement. I tried to stay light on my feet, bobbing and weaving like I’d seen in the videos. It was tougher than it looked! I quickly realized that this takes some serious coordination and stamina.
After a few minutes of getting the hang of it, I started to throw in some actual slips. The idea is to move your head and body just enough to avoid the “punch” (in this case, the swinging pillow) without losing your balance or position. I started slow, focusing on the timing and movement of my head.
- First attempt: I moved too much and nearly tripped over my own feet.
- Second attempt: I didn’t move enough and got smacked in the face by the pillow. Ouch!
- Third attempt: I started to get the hang of it. I moved just enough to avoid the pillow and kept my balance. Progress!
I kept practicing, trying different combinations of slips and movements. It was a great workout! I was sweating and out of breath, but it was also a lot of fun. I felt like I was in a real boxing match, except my opponent was a couple of fluffy pillows.
I spent about an hour practicing my slip boxing. By the end, I was definitely better than when I started. I still got hit a few times, but I was getting better at anticipating the pillow’s movement and slipping out of the way.

My takeaways from this little experiment?
- Slip boxing is a lot harder than it looks, but it’s also a really fun and engaging way to exercise.
- You don’t need fancy equipment to get started. Just some space, some pillows, and a bit of creativity.
- Be prepared to look a bit silly, especially at first. But who cares? It’s all about having fun and trying something new.
I’m definitely going to keep practicing my slip boxing. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be good enough to take on a real opponent… or at least a heavier pillow.
