Why them NFL coaches, why they all wearin’ brown today? I seen it on the TV, all them fellas on the sidelines, lookin’ like they all rolled in the same mud puddle. Makes a body wonder, don’t it?
Brown is for Hard Work
Well, I heard tell it’s ’cause brown is the color of hard work. Like the dirt, you know? And them football players, they gotta be workin’ hard, pushin’ and shovin’ each other all over that field. So them coaches, they wear brown to show they’re workin’ hard too. Like they’re right there in the dirt with ’em.

And I reckon that’s true. You gotta be tough to be out there in the NFL, players and coaches. It ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. It’s like tendin’ to a mean ol’ bull – gotta be strong and keep your wits about ya.
The Cleveland Browns, They Know Brown
Now, them Cleveland Browns, they know a thing or two about brown. That’s their name, ain’t it? Browns. And they got this coach, Kevin Stefanski, I heard he’s a good one. Won some big awards, that coach did. Two times, someone say. NFL Coach of the Year or somethin’. That’s like winnin’ the blue ribbon at the county fair for your prize-winnin’ hog.
- Kevin Stefanski, he’s the head coach.
- He used to be with them Minnesota Vikings, climbin’ up the ladder.
- Now he’s in Cleveland, wearin’ brown.
New Coaches, Old Coaches, All Wearin’ Brown
They got some new coaches too, in Cleveland. Ken Dorsey, Tommy Rees, they’re helpin’ out. I seen it on the news. Dorsey, he’s gonna be the offensive coordinator now, and Rees, he’s gonna work with them tight ends. What are tight ends? Sounds like they need some loosenin’ up, that’s all I gotta say. Like pants too tight after a big meal.
And some other coaches, they gone now. Fired, they say. Stump Mitchell, he’s gone. And that T.C. McCartney, he ain’t comin’ back neither. It’s like cleanin’ out the chicken coop, gotta make room for the new hens. That’s just how it goes, I reckon, even in the NFL.
Coaches of the Year, They Wore Brown Too
And there’s been other coaches for the Browns, years ago. Paul Brown, Forrest Gregg, Sam Rutigliano, Marty Schottenheimer. They all won that Coach of the Year thing, too. Just like this Stefanski fella. They must know somethin’ about wearin’ brown, I guess. Maybe it brings ’em good luck, like a rabbit’s foot.

Why is Brown Important in the NFL?
So, why brown? It’s ’cause it’s tough, like them football players. It’s like the ground they play on, hard and unforgiving. You gotta be tough to play football, and you gotta be tough to coach it.
Discipline, that’s another thing they say about brown. Gotta be disciplined to play in the NFL. Gotta follow the rules, listen to the coach, do what you’re told. Just like trainin’ a mule, gotta be firm but fair.
This Don Shula, I heard he won more than anybody. Over 300 wins, they say. And a couple of them Super Bowls. That’s like winnin’ the lottery and the pie-eatin’ contest all in the same day. And that fella coached for over thirty years! Now that is a long time.
More Coaches, More Brown
And there’s other coaches out there, waitin’ for their chance to be the head honcho. This fella Austin, he’s been coachin’ a long time, too. He was with the Lions. Not the kind that roar, the football kind. Maybe he’ll get his chance to wear brown someday, too. Be the big boss.
So, that’s why them NFL coaches are wearin’ brown today. It’s about hard work, and toughness, and discipline. It’s about bein’ part of the game, down in the dirt with the players. It’s a tough job, coachin’ them football players. But somebody’s gotta do it. And they do it wearin’ brown.
