Today, I messed around with something called “Raina Tennis.” Sounds a bit weird, right? I mean, I’ve heard of Ankita Raina, the tennis player who’s apparently number one in India for women’s singles and doubles. But “Raina Tennis”? That’s new.
So, I went ahead and tried to figure out what this is all about. Turns out, it’s like a mix of regular tennis and badminton. Some person named Raina Sato came up with it, or so I read. Pretty cool idea, mixing two sports like that. Reminds me of that time when I tried to play basketball with a soccer ball. Messy but fun!

Anyway, I grabbed my old tennis racket and a few shuttlecocks. I don’t have a proper badminton racket, so I thought, why not use the tennis one? It’s all about experimenting, right? I headed to the local park where they have these tennis courts. They’re usually not too crowded, which is perfect for trying out weird stuff without getting too many stares.
First, I tried serving the shuttlecock like I would a tennis ball. Big mistake! It just flopped over the net. Then I remembered how they do it in badminton, that underhand swing. That worked a bit better. It felt a bit like I was playing a giant, slow-motion version of badminton. It is really a hard sport.
- Serving: Underhand is the way to go.
- Rallying: You gotta be gentle, or the shuttlecock just collapses.
- Scoring: We just used regular tennis scoring, ’cause why not?
I played for about an hour, mostly against myself. It was a good workout, I’ll give it that. Not as intense as regular tennis, but definitely more than just hitting a shuttlecock around. And yeah, people looked at me funny, but who cares? I was having a blast.
My Two Cents
This “Raina Tennis” thing is pretty fun if you’re looking for something different. It’s not as fast-paced as tennis or badminton, but it’s got its own charm. Plus, you don’t need any special gear. Just a racket, a shuttlecock, and a court. And maybe a friend who’s also up for trying something new.
Would I play it again? Sure, why not? It’s a good way to kill an afternoon and get a bit of exercise. And hey, maybe I’ll even get good at it. Who knows, maybe “Raina Tennis” will be the next big thing! Or not. But it’s fun, and that’s what matters, right?
