Alright, so you wanna know about that F1 car racing thing, the one where them fellas drive real fast? And you’re askin’ about when they do that qualifyin’ thing? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I heard. Mind you, I ain’t no expert, just listenin’ to the TV and such.
Seems like this time, they’re in Las Vegas. Yep, that fancy place with all the lights and such. Heard them announcers sayin’ somethin’ ’bout “Las Vegas Grand Prix“. Sounds mighty important, don’t it? They’re doin’ this racin’ stuff on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of November. Now, you’re askin’ about the qualifyin’, right? That’s when they figure out who gets to start where in the big race.

Well, for this Vegas race, they’re doin’ the qualifyin’ on Friday, November 22nd. That’s what I heard, clear as day. Now, the time, that’s where it gets a bit tricky. See, they got different times dependin’ on where you are. Out there in Vegas, they’re sayin’ it’s at 10:00 PM. Yep, late at night. But if you’re over in England, or wherever that “GMT” place is, it’s 6:00 in the mornin’. Early birds get the worm, I guess, even when it comes to watchin’ cars go fast.
- Las Vegas time: 10:00 PM on Friday, November 22nd.
- GMT: 6:00 AM on Saturday, November 23rd.
Now, I heard tell that sometimes things change. Like, somethin’ about a race in the “United States” – that’s another place over yonder – where they were gonna do the qualifyin’ at 5:00 PM local time. But that ain’t the Vegas race, mind you. Just sayin’ things can be different.
This qualifyin’ thing, it ain’t just one go-around. Oh no, they make it complicated. They got this Q1, Q2, and Q3 business. Q1 lasts 18 minutes, and they kick out five slow fellas. Then Q2 is 15 minutes, and another five get the boot. Finally, Q3 is just 12 minutes, and that’s when they figure out who’s the fastest of the fast, the top 10, you know. They get to start up front in the big race.
And where can you watch all this racin’ and qualifyin’? Well, seems like it’s on somethin’ called “ESPN,” “ESPN2,” and “ESPNEWS.” I reckon that’s on that TV thing, or maybe even that computery thing folks are always lookin’ at these days. You gotta have some kinda cable or somethin’ to get them channels, I hear.
Now, they were talkin’ ’bout another race, the one they call the “United States Grand Prix” in Austin, yeah that one starts at 5:00pm local time, that’s 11pm in that England place. But that ain’t the one you asked about. Just tellin’ ya so you don’t get confused. So remember, for the Las Vegas race, qualifyin’ is Friday night, 10:00 PM Vegas time, 6:00 AM GMT. Got it? Good. Now, go on and watch them cars go fast, if that’s what you like doin’.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I heard tell that one time somethin’ happened and they couldn’t do the qualifyin’ on Saturday, so they moved it to some other time, like 0730 in the morning. But that don’t happen all the time. Just so you know, in case you hear folks talkin’ about it. But for this Vegas race, it’s Friday night, like I said. Friday night.
Anyways, just watch the TV and listen for those announcers. They’ll tell ya what’s what. They know more than this old lady, that’s for sure.
