Okay, so I was messing around online, you know, just killing time, and I stumbled on this kinda interesting topic: ex-NBA players who are Jehovah’s Witnesses. I got curious, like, how many are there? So, I started digging around.
First, I just Googled it, plain and simple. You know, “how many ex-nba players are jehovah’s witnesses” – that kind of thing. I found some stuff right off the bat. Some articles popped up, and they mentioned a few names I recognized, like Darren Collison and Danny Granger. They both played for the Pacers, which I thought was a neat coincidence. Apparently, there’s also this guy, Dewayne Dedmon, who’s still in the league with the Miami Heat. He’s also a Jehovah’s Witness.

But I wanted to go deeper. So I kept scrolling, reading through more articles. I learned that Jehovah’s Witnesses are, like, a Christian group, but they have some different beliefs than other Christians. They believe in God, who they call Jehovah, and they take the whole Bible super seriously. They think Jesus is God’s son and all that, but not part of a Trinity, like some other groups believe. I guess that’s not really part of my research, but hey, it’s all related, right?
Anyway, back to the NBA players. I found this one guy, A.C. Green, who used to play in the NBA. He’s apparently pretty involved in the Jehovah’s Witness faith. I kept going and found out there are more, like, at least eight of them. There was one article talking about their “spiritual paths” and how they got into it. Pretty interesting stuff. I read about this guy named Dave Meyers who was picked second by the Lakers in 1975. He’s one of them, too.
So, yeah, that’s what I found out. It’s not a huge number, but it’s definitely more than I expected. It’s kind of cool to see how these guys, who were all about basketball, also have this whole other side to them, this religious side. Their faith is obviously super important to them, and some even retired early because of it. Like Collison retired from the NBA for a few years to help the less fortunate through the Jehovah’s Witness faith. It just goes to show you, there’s always more to people than meets the eye, even famous athletes. That was a pretty productive way to spend an afternoon, huh?
Here’s a quick rundown of what I found:
- There are at least 8 ex-NBA players who are Jehovah’s Witnesses.
- Some notable names include:
- Darren Collison
- Danny Granger
- Dewayne Dedmon (still playing)
- A.C. Green
- Dave Meyers
- Some of these players retired early or took breaks from their careers to focus on their faith.
That’s it for my little research project. It was fun learning something new, and hopefully, you found it interesting too!
