Alright, so today I wanted to mess around and find an AM radio station that plays NFL games. I’ve been kinda nostalgic for that old-school radio vibe, you know?
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my old portable AM/FM radio – the one I used to listen to baseball games with my grandpa. It still works, thankfully! I extended the antenna, turned it on, and switched it to AM.

The Search Begins
Then came the fun part – spinning that dial. I started at one end of the spectrum and slowly moved it across, listening for any hint of sports talk or, even better, live game commentary. Lots of static, some talk radio about politics (no thanks!), and a few stations playing music that definitely wasn’t from this century.
Finding Potential Candidates
I kept searching, and I think I found a couple of promising stations. One had a really strong signal, but it was just a pre-game show. Still, progress! I jotted down the frequency on a sticky note, just in case.
- Station 1: 780 AM – Strong signal, pre-game show.
I continued scanning. Further up the dial, I found another station that seemed to be broadcasting something sports-related, but the signal was super weak and fading in and out. I tried adjusting the antenna, moving the radio around the room, but it was tough to make out what they were saying.
- Station 2: 1320 AM – Very weak signal, possibly a game?
The Challenge of Weak Signals
It is so hard to get it.

That second station was frustrating! I really thought I was close, but the static was just too much. I might need to try again later, maybe at night when there’s less interference. Or, I might need to invest in a better antenna.
Next Steps
So, I haven’t completely succeeded yet, but I’m not giving up. I’m going to:
- Try listening to those two stations again later tonight.
- Look into getting a more powerful antenna, maybe one I can put outside.
It’s a work in progress, but I’m determined to get my NFL fix on the AM dial. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes!
