When folks start talkin’ ’bout quarterbacks like Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph, you know they’s lookin’ for answers on who’s the better choice, huh? Now, both these fellas done had their chances to show what they got, but if we’re gonna sit down and look at their numbers, we sure can make a comparison, even if it ain’t all that fancy-like. So, let’s go through it, nice and slow, see what the stats got to say ’bout each of ‘em.
Kenny Pickett—now, he’s the one that been given the bigger spotlight. He started more games, and folks been hopin’ he’d turn into somethin’ special, ya know? But if you look real close at his numbers, it ain’t always as pretty as you might think. As of now, he’s done about 14 more starts than Mason Rudolph, and even though he’s played more games, his touchdowns don’t quite stack up. Pickett’s only got 3 more touchdowns than Rudolph, even though he’s been out there longer. His QBR this season’s sittin’ at a low 38.8, which is a tough one to swallow. For a quarterback, that’s just not good enough, even with all the playin’ time he got.

Mason Rudolph—now here’s a fella who don’t get as much credit, but boy, he’s been steady. Ain’t as flashy, but he been gettin’ it done. In his two starts this season, he managed to complete 68.5% of his passes. Now that’s somethin’ to look at! He threw two touchdowns in them starts, and his QBR was sittin’ at 70.9 and 79.1—way better than Pickett’s. I reckon that says somethin’ about how he’s been readin’ the field and makin’ decisions quicker than some folks might think. His passin’ game has been sharp, and he’s been able to stay cool under pressure.
Now, folks been talkin’ ’bout the Steelers’ offensive line and run game, and sure enough, them things been doin’ their part. But when it comes to the quarterbacks, it seems like Rudolph’s been the more accurate and composed one out there. He don’t rush his throws, and he sure don’t make them reckless mistakes like some quarterbacks do when they try to do too much. He’s calm, collected, and just does what’s asked of him.
- Kenny Pickett: 62% completion rate, 6 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, QBR of 38.8
- Mason Rudolph: 68.5% completion rate, 2 touchdowns, no interceptions, QBR of 70.9 and 79.1
If you ask me, I’d say Rudolph been showin’ more consistency, even if he ain’t got all the game starts. Ain’t always about the fancy stats or the number of games played, it’s about what you do with the chances you get. And from where I stand, Rudolph’s been the steadier hand out there on the field.
It ain’t all about what’s happened in the past, though. The future’s still ahead, and both of these boys got the chance to grow, get better, and show what they’re made of. But if we’re talkin’ ’bout right now, Mason Rudolph sure been givin’ folks somethin’ to think about. The way I see it, if the Steelers were to go with him more, it might just pay off better in the long run.
Now, I know there’s folks out there who’ll argue all day about whether it’s Pickett or Rudolph who should be startin’, but in my humble opinion, it’s all ’bout which one can handle the pressure and make them plays when it counts. And right now, Rudolph’s lookin’ a whole lot calmer and more reliable.
