Alright, so you wanna know about them football teams playin’ in them dome thingies, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t as simple as you might think. But I’ll try to make it plain as day for ya, like my old ma used to say, “Keep it simple, stupid!”
First off, there’s a whole bunch of these NFL teams, thirty-somethin’ I heard. And not all of ’em play in them domes. Some of ’em play outside, rain or shine, bless their hearts. But some of them smart fellers figured out they didn’t wanna be freezin’ their butts off or gettin’ soaked, so they built these big ol’ buildings with roofs on ’em.

Now, some of these roofs, they stay put. Like that Superdome down in New Orleans. That thing’s been around since the seventies, older than my prize-winning rooster! Then you got Ford Field up in Detroit. They got some nasty winters up there, so them Lions play inside where it’s nice and cozy. That Ford Field, they say it lets in a lot of sunshine, even with the roof closed. Fancy, ain’t it?
There’s a couple of other new-fangled domes too. One in Minnesota, U.S. Bank Stadium they call it, and one in Las Vegas, Allegiant Stadium. Them city slickers sure like their fancy names.
- New Orleans Saints – Caesars Superdome
- Detroit Lions – Ford Field
- Minnesota Vikings – U.S. Bank Stadium
- Las Vegas Raiders – Allegiant Stadium
Now, some other teams, they got roofs that can open and close. Like them fancy convertible cars, I reckon. They call ’em retractable roofs. So, if it’s a nice day, they open ‘er up, and if it’s rainin’ or snowin’, they close ‘er up tight. Smart, real smart.
I heard tell of that AT T Stadium, built a while back, in 2009 I think. And that State Farm Stadium out in Arizona, where them Cardinals play. Glendale, that’s where it is. Don’t ask me why they call it State Farm, maybe the insurance folks paid ’em a pretty penny.
So, you got your domes that are always closed, and you got your domes that can open and close. And the reason they got ’em is simple: keep them players and fans comfy. Nobody wants to sit through a blizzard or a downpour if they don’t have to. And them players, they can play their best when they ain’t slippin’ and slidin’ all over the place.

Now, I ain’t no expert on this football stuff, but I know what I hear. And I hear folks talkin’ about the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings playin’ in domes. Seems like a lot of teams are movin’ that way. Weather’s gettin’ crazier every year, so I guess it makes sense.
So, there you have it. A whole bunch of teams playin’ in domes, some fixed, some that open and close. All them fellas tryin’ to stay warm and dry, just like the rest of us. And that’s all there is to it, plain and simple. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens.
To recap, there’s a good few teams playin’ in domes or stadiums with retractable roofs. Keeps ’em outta the weather, you know? Makes sense to me.
And that’s the long and short of it, as best as I can tell ya. If you need more, you go ask them TV fellas, they know everything.
