Well, let me tell ya, that there racin’ was somethin’ else! Folks was goin’ round and round faster than a fly on a hot skillet. Heard tell it was for some kinda big cup, the “NASCAR Cup” they called it.
Now, I ain’t no fancy car expert or nothin’, but I know fast when I see it. And them cars was movin’ faster than a greased pig at the county fair! Heard a buncha names bein’ thrown around, all them fellas racin’ hard as they could.

This fella, Joey Logano, they said he won it. Yep, that’s the name I heard. Folks was yellin’ it all over the place. Said he won it before too, in ’18 and ’22, so I guess he knows his way ’round a track. He’s drivin’ that number 22 Ford, they say, for that Penske fella. Apparently, he had to fight off that Ryan Blaney fella at the end there. Close racin’, it was.
They said somethin’ about it bein’ at that Phoenix place, where it’s hotter than a furnace in the summertime. Man, I wouldn’t wanna be out there in that heat, but these fellas, they just kept on racin’. Tough as nails, they are.
- They was talkin’ ’bout some new thing they put on the cars, somethin’ ’bout “dampers” and “lifters.” Sounded like gibberish to me, but I reckon it makes them cars go faster or somethin’. Them fellas are always tinkerin’ with things, ain’t they? Can’t just leave well enough alone.
- And then they had them “stages,” whatever them are. This Buescher fella won one of ’em, passed that Chastain boy. And that Byron fella, he was up there too, racin’ hard. Heard he was in the top four, so I guess he did alright.
- Then there was that overtime thing. Sounded like they just kept racin’ and racin’. Musta been real close! That Reddick fella with his Toyota, he was givin’ ’em a run for their money too, fightin’ with that Byron fella again.
I tell ya, it was excitin’ even just hearin’ ’bout it. All that speed and noise, musta been somethin’ to see in person. Folks was cheerin’ and hollerin’, just like at the hog callin’ contest at the fair.
So, yeah, Joey Logano, that’s the name. He won that there NASCAR Cup. Three times now, they said. Guess he’s a pretty good driver, that fella. He and his crew chief, that Paul Wolfe fella, they must be doin’ somethin’ right.
I heard they got all kinds of races, all season long. This one was the big one, though, the championship. Folks get all worked up over it, just like they do over the pie-eatin’ contest at the church picnic.

They keep track of all them races, see who wins and all that. Got it all written down somewhere, I reckon. Probably got folks bettin’ on it too, though I ain’t never held with gamblin’ myself.
Anyhow, that’s the gist of it. Joey Logano won, and it sounds like he had to fight tooth and nail to do it. Good for him, I say. He earned that there cup, whatever it is.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens. They ain’t as fast as them race cars, but they sure do make a racket when they’re hungry!
